Saratoga Class: Hull Rework

As much as I liked the preceeding design, I felt it was a little too generic, so I went about redesigning the base hull again, making it more narrow and a bit taller.

Project: Stanford Tori Concept

I began a reimaging of the Stanford Torus (which I almost always type 'Standford' before I have to go back and fix it.  This is the top half of the station, which would be mirrored on the other half.

Saratoga Class: New Bridge and Cooling Fins

I didn't care for the original bridge layout, so it was replaced with this version.  The bridge section contain so many polygons, it started to drag down my system, so I spent most of the time working with that layer turned off.  New cooling 'fins' can be seen towards the aft section.

Saratoga Class: Turret Placement

Testing initial turret designs and placement. Most of these turrets would be completely rebuilt.

Saratoga Class: Medium Turret

I went on to create several turrets, large and small.  This one fell into the medium category.  Each turret is designed with it's own reactor and cooling system.

And yet more panels....

Saratoga Class: Hull Panels

To distract from my utter failure to be 100% awesome with my first redesign attempt, I moved onto creating detailed hull panels for the ship.  I knew that this would eventually cause the total polygon count to skyrocket, but I decided to move forward, if anything it was more practice.

Saratoga Class: More Hull Modifications

I forget, am I supposed to point out where I have difficulties, or should I show no weakness?  The stern section of this hull gave me a major headache, I could find a shape I was happy with.  As a result, I eventually moved on and left it for later.  The initial bridge design is seen here.

Saratoga Class: Hull Redesigns

The beginning of many hull configurations.  The initial choice was to make the hull wider to support additional main turrets.

Reaper Rework and Rename

Stripping down the model show defects even with the base hull, so back to the drawing board to rebuild the base from scratch.  Since this model will not be for the 'Reaper Class', for the time being it will be labeled as the Saratoga Class Battleship.  (How does spell check not know the word 'saratoga'?)

Project: Reaper Battlecruiser Model Rework

The Reaper is an old model I created a few years ago when my modelling skills were a bit lacking.  Although it has great lines, it needed a serious rework, so here we are.  I'm actually going to upgrade it's class, keeping the original (for the library) and using it as a base to create a larger class.  Since the Reaper was a Cruiser, this one will be a Battleship.  Ohhhh, scary, right?

So, this is where I'm starting from.  This model will be completely stripped down and the base hull used as a template for the new class. A little note about this image, I made a mistake rendering it, of it's three primary engines, only one, the center one, actually rendered.
